• Nat Turner - Nat Turner is known for leading a slave rebellion in Virginia in 1831. Although the rebellion was ultimately suppressed, it had a significant impact on the debate over slavery and contributed to the growing tensions leading up to the Civil War.

• Dred Scott - Dred Scott was an enslaved man who sued for his freedom in a famous Supreme Court case known as the Dred Scott v. Sandford case (1857). The Supreme Court's decision denied his freedom and ruled that enslaved individuals were property rather than citizens.

• Harriet Tubman - Harriet Tubman was born into slavery but escaped to the North and became a prominent conductor on the Underground Railroad, leading hundreds of enslaved people to freedom. She is also known for her work as a nurse, spy, and advocate for women's suffrage.

• Sojourner Truth - Born into slavery as Isabella Baumfree, Sojourner Truth became a prominent abolitionist and women's rights activist. She is best known for her speech "Ain't I a Woman?" in which she addressed issues of race and gender.

• Frederick Douglass - Frederick Douglass was an enslaved African American who escaped bondage and went on to become a leading abolitionist, orator, and writer. His autobiography, "Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave," is a powerful account of his life and experiences.
