• Greenwood District, Tulsa, Oklahoma (1921) - Known for the Tulsa Race Massacre, where a white mob attacked the prosperous Black community known as "Black Wall Street," resulting in the destruction of the neighborhood and the deaths of an estimated 100 to 300 African Americans.
• Rosewood, Florida (1923) - The site of the Rosewood massacre, a racially motivated attack on the predominantly Black town by a large group of white people, which led to the destruction of the town and numerous deaths of its Black residents.

• Birmingham, Alabama (1963) - Notably, the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing by Ku Klux Klan members, which killed four African American girls and highlighted the violent resistance to the Civil Rights Movement.

• Selma, Alabama (1965) - Known for "Bloody Sunday," where peaceful civil rights demonstrators were brutally beaten by law enforcement as they attempted to march from Selma to Montgomery to advocate for voting rights.

• Philadelphia, Mississippi (1964) - The location of the murders of three civil rights workers (James Chaney, Andrew Goodman, and Michael Schwerner) during the Freedom Summer campaign aimed at registering Black voters in the South. This event underscored the extreme violence faced by civil rights activists in the 1960s.
